This recipe has just the right amount of butter, garlic, and cheese which makes it the perfect Cheesy Garlic Bread!

Somehow, garlic bread seems to be the perfect side dish for SO many recipes. It goes great with pasta (like this Spaghetti Pie), soups (may I suggest this Lasagna Soup?), and even salads! You can find some decent garlic bread pre-made at the grocery store, and trust me, I’ve had my fair share of the stuff. However, nothing tastes better than homemade garlic bread! Even better? Homemade CHEESY garlic bread.

I’ve tried plenty of recipes for garlic bread over the last several years and I’ve finally tweaked one just right to get a recipe that has just the right amount of buttery, garlicky, and cheesy goodness! It comes together quickly and definitely beats the stuff you’ll find in the freezer section. Enjoy!

Homemade Garlic Bread Ingredients

Simple yet flavorful ingredients make up this cheesy garlic bread recipe. For the full list of ingredients and their measurements, be sure to see the recipe card below.

  • Bread: With this particular recipe, I do take a little help from the store and buy a loaf of French baguette or Italian bread from the bakery, but feel free to make a loaf of bread from scratch if you wish.
  • Butter: Soaks into the bread and forms the rich and flavorful base of the garlic bread
  • Garlic: Fresh garlic adds a pungent and aromatic flavor to the bread, infusing each bite with irresistible garlic goodness. Garlic powder can also be used for convenience and will give a more mild garlic flavor.
  • Fresh or dried parsley: Adds a vibrant burst of color and a refreshing herbal note to the garlic bread, adding to its visual appeal and flavor profile.
  • Shredded cheese: I used parmesan and a bit of mozzarella. Read more on what cheese is best for garlic bread below.

How to Make Cheesy Garlic Bread

Here is a brief overview of how easy it is to make cheesy garlic bread at home. For the full recipe including all measurements, scroll to the recipe card at the bottom of the post.

  1. Slice your bread. While your oven preheats, cut the bread in half lengthwise so that you have two long pieces.
  2. Melt the butter and mix in the garlic and parsley. Spread the butter mixture over both pieces of bread. A rubber spatula works great for this.
  3. Bake the bread. Put the bread back together, cover in aluminum foil, and bake in the oven for 15 minutes.
  4. Add the cheese. Once you take it out of the oven, open the bread back up and top with the shredded cheese. Leave bread open-faced and bake for another 4-5 minutes. Cut into slices and enjoy!

recipe tip!

If you want crispy garlic bread, turn on your broiler and broil the bread for an additional 3 minutes or until the cheese melts. Watch it closely because it can burn easily.

Cheese for Garlic Bread

A combination of Parmesan and mozzarella cheese creates a decadent and melty topping for the garlic bread. Parmesan offers a sharp and salty flavor, while mozzarella adds a creamy and stretchy texture to the cheesy goodness. You can use any cheese that you prefer, I recommend using cheese that melts well.

Anytime a recipe calls for shredded cheese, I recommend grating it yourself from a block. Pre-shredded cheese is covered in preservatives that prevent it from clumping together in the bag, but these preservatives also prevent the cheese from melting well. For the best melting and flavor, grab a block of cheese and grate it yourself. It is definitely worth the extra couple of minutes.

Storing and Reheating Leftover Bread

If you have any leftover garlic bread, store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. Reheat it in the oven or air fryer for just a few minutes until it is heated through.
